Who we are

Rutera is a map and trip-planning platform for the Dominican Republic. This policy covers rutera.do (the site) and rutera.io (the app).

Rutera is the controller of personal data. For privacy requests, email hola@rutera.do.

What this page covers

It applies if you browse as a guest, create an account, email us, or a business asks to advertise. Travel content is informational — check hours, prices, and routes before you go.

What we collect

It depends on how you use Rutera. You don’t need an account to view the map or plan a trip on the spot.

• Without an account: data stored on your device (current trip, downloaded maps, language, whether you’ve seen the welcome). We don’t need your name or email.
• With an account: your email, and if you sign in with Google, the name Google shares. We store your trips, bookmarks, and ratings so they sync across devices.
• If you email us or ask to add a place: the email and whatever you send in the message or questionnaire.
• If a business wants to advertise: name, email, WhatsApp, and the business details submitted in the form.
• Location: only if you turn it on (for example, to use your position as the trip origin). We don’t track your route in the background.
• Product use: taps on places, routes, and ads, with a browser session id — to see what works, not to sell profiles.

How we use it

To run Rutera: show the map, save your trip, sync favorites, process ratings, answer email, and improve the app.

We don’t sell your information. We don’t run personalized ads from your trip data. Ads you see are from local partners who advertise on the platform.

Accounts and sign-in

An account is optional and free. You can sign in with Google or with a link sent to your email (magic link).

Google and our auth provider (Supabase) process that sign-in. If you don’t want to use Google, use the email link.

Signing out does not delete your account. To delete the account and data tied to it, email hola@rutera.do from the same address you sign in with.

Location

Rutera may ask for your location only when you ask for it — for example, to set the trip origin to where you are. The browser asks first; you can say no.

We don’t use location to follow you when the app is closed.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser storage (localStorage / sessionStorage), not a third-party cookie wall.

That’s where language, the trip you’re building, provinces downloaded for offline use, and an analytics session id live. Clear the site data in your browser and it’s gone.

Analytics

We measure events inside Rutera (for example, opening a place card or tapping an ad) to understand the product. That goes to our own servers, with a browser session id.

We don’t use third-party ad networks to track you across the web. Map tiles may load from OpenStreetMap or other map providers, which can log the technical request (IP, browser) like any site with a map.

Who we share it with

Only with what’s needed to run the service, or if the law requires it:

• Supabase: accounts, saved trips, bookmarks, ratings, and forms.
• Google: only if you choose “Continue with Google”.
• Map providers (e.g. OpenStreetMap / Leaflet) to draw the map.
• Hosting and email, to serve the site and reply to you.
• Authorities, if we have a legal obligation.

How long we keep it

Account data and what you sync (trips, bookmarks, ratings) stay as long as the account exists. If you ask us to delete it, we do so within a reasonable time, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

What’s only on your device is yours to clear: delete site data in the browser, or remove offline maps in Settings.

Emails to hola@rutera.do and advertising requests we keep as long as needed to reply and run the business.

Your rights

Under Dominican Law 172-13 — and, if it applies to you, other rules such as the GDPR — you can ask to access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of your data.

Email hola@rutera.do. Say what you want (see, correct, or delete) and the email on the account. We’ll reply as soon as we can.

Children

Rutera is not directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect data from kids. If you think a minor created an account, tell us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If something material changes, we update this page and the date above. Continued use of Rutera after a change means you accept the version published here.
